The Mistress of Lydgate Priory; or, the Story of a Long Life

Author: Evelyn Everett Green
Publisher: Religious Tract Society
Publish Date: 1886

A skillfully constructed and beautifully written story of the time when George the Fourth was king. Grandmamma here tells out the story of her life's joys and sorrows. As a self willed maiden with an ample fortune, she plays with hearts, and so "plays her cards" that to her cost she finds there are knaves as well as queens of hearts and that as she sows, so she reaps-heart break. But little children, loving and talking of their Savior, become their mother's teacher, and the giddy woman of the world becomes the wise Christian matron, the recital of whose checkered experiences will tend to the pleasure and profit of the younger members of her circle.
