Methodist Worthies. Characteristic Sketches of Methodist Preachers. Vols. 5 & 6

Author: George M. Stevenson
Publisher: Thomas C. Jack
Publish Date: 1886

Nobody living could to his work better than Mr. Stevenson for he has lived and moved in the midst of Methodism of all sorts. He has been behind the scenes as well as in the public activities of the various bodies of Methodists. With the portraits and lives of worthies these six volumes make up a grand memorial of much interest to all the followers of the great Wesleys. Our author has undertaken too great a work to be able to insert in the biographies those anecdotes which are the charm of all memoirs; but he has done his best where the materials are not of the richest, and the space was necessarily limited. We trust the many Methodist communities will see that this labor becomes enumerative; every wealthy layman should purchase a copy and hand it down to his descendants.
